Wanting advice on how to run and build Smart Home

Jake's smart home started in December of 2017 after the recent release of the Amazon Echo Dot (First Gen). He enjoyed it for a while, although after a few months it got put in a cupboard, being forgotten about. However almost one year later he was watching some YouTube videos and came across a video saying how to use Alexa to control a light bulb. That caused him to buy one and from then on his product range has massively extended.
